The Commonwealth Games is coming to Birmingham in 2022 and are wanting businesses in the Midlands to be involved in this fantastic opportunity.

The Commonwealth Games in 2022 is the best opportunity in decades for the Midlands to raise its profile and drive investment. With thousands of athletes, media and fans from 70 countries coming over for the Commonwealth Games over the next four years, this could redefine the image of what the city is and what businesses in the Midlands have to offer.

On Thursday 22 March, Insider hosted the breakfast allowing panel experts to outline just what the Commonwealth Games 2022 will mean for businesses. This saw speakers from the Commonwealth Games, the NEC, Birmingham City Council, Rider Levett Bucknall, West Midlands Growth Company, Shakespeare Martineau, City-REDI and Peter Brett Associates.

Despite the short time-scale for the Commonwealth Games the experts involved in the planning process felt confident how to make this a successful event for Birmingham and the Midlands by stressing the importance of efficiency and making decisions quickly.

At the event, the panel stated that there will be opportunities for businesses across the Midlands to be involved in the development of the Games, the Business Expo and supplying goods to the athletes and other parts of the Games over the next four years.

The key sectors they wish to engage with are: Food & Drink, Pharmaceutical and Digital, as they want to be able to supply the athletes coming for the Games with local produce as well as build an infrastructure which helps define Birmingham.

The Chamber feels that having local businesses in Herefordshire and Worcestershire County involved with the Commonwealth games would be a fantastic opportunity.
