INSPIRE 25,000 YOUNG PEOPLE THROUGH EMPLOYER-LED MENTORING IN SCHOOLS ACROSS ENGLAND

Home / News & Opportunities / Opportunities

Date: 31/07/2017

The Careers & Enterprise Company would like to invite local businesses who are involved, or would like to be involved with, school outreach programmes to The Big Match – events that will explore the benefits of employer-led mentoring.

The Big Match will communicate the latest research produced by The Careers & Enterprise Company and provide an opportunity to match employer volunteers to mentoring organisations.
The Careers & Enterprise Company is leading the coordination of a national mentoring campaign to connect 25,000 young people to an employer mentor by 2020. The research shows that young people who are going to disengage from school have already done so by year 10, so the campaign focuses on those in years 8-10. The Careers & Enterprise Company are working in partnership with mentoring providers to achieve this mission and they need your support to recruit inspiring role models from your organisation.

Why should my organisation get involved?

Mentoring has been shown to be one of the three most effective activities for engaging young people with positive outcomes including improvements in behaviour, attainment and progression. There are also direct business benefits for your organisation, including:
·        Fostering employee engagement, satisfaction and retention
·        Developing employee professional and personal skills
·        Cultivating and developing the future workforce
·        Supporting vibrant communities (which include viable customers)

How can my organisation get involved?

The Big Match events will provide your organisation and members with a unique opportunity to learn more about a number of proven mentoring programme providers at one time.  If you would like your organisation to be involved in mentoring,(or to increase its current mentoring activities, you will then have the opportunity to engage with these providers in a structured and focused way to connect your employees and members to schools.
The events will take place in city centre locations in Birmingham, Manchester and London on the Wednesday 9, Thursday 10 and Friday 11 August respectively.

You can register to attend the events here.
