Young rugby players in Worcestershire are being backed by one of the county’s leading legal firms as part of a three-year sponsorship deal.

Regional law firm mfg Solicitors have agreed a deal to provide £7,500 to the Worcester Rugby Football Club Mini Juniors Section until 2020, with the money helping towards the running of the grassroots section, tournaments and purchasing equipment.

Around 500 players ranging from the under-7s to under-18s, both boys and girls, will benefit from the deal at a crucial time, as they seek to improve on recent success.

The club is hoping to build on the impressive feat of the under-18 ladies, who reached the national RFU Girls Cup Final last season, and the under-17 boys, who were only narrowly beaten in the regional cup final.

Tom Esler, partner at mfg Solicitors, said: “We have a strong and long-standing track record of supporting the local community, including the sports stars of tomorrow here in Worcestershire.

“Children’s sport is essential not just for health and wellbeing but for developing vital teamwork and social skills.

“We hope that our backing over the next three years will help young people to achieve their full potential, play as much rugby as possible, and get more children and coaches involved in the grassroots of the game.”

Adrian Heffernan, chairman of Worcester Rugby Football Club Mini Juniors added: “We are entering an exciting period and preparing to unveil our new clubhouse at the end of February which will be another fantastic milestone for the club.

“We’ve had some real success in the past few years on and off the pitch and funding from mfg Solicitors over the next three years will help us to build on that and encourage more youngsters to remain playing the game and hopefully move up to Senior rugby. We are hugely grateful for their support.”

mfg Solicitors, which has offices in Worcester, Kidderminster, Bromsgrove and across Shropshire, has a long history with Worcester Rugby Club and were previous sponsors of former Worcester Warriors flanker Matt Kvesic before his move south to Gloucester in 2013.
