AVONCROFT MUSEUM GOES WILD AT EASTER

Home / News & Opportunities / Member News

Date: 29/03/2017

Local families are invited to enjoy the great outdoors this Easter with two weeks of nature and wildlife activities at Avoncroft Museum.

“The Secret Gardens” will run during the Easter holidays from Monday April 10th to Friday April 21st, with a special Family Fun Day on Easter Monday, April 17th.

During Week One, which runs 10th-14th April, visitors will be able to get busy in the garden with green-fingered activities galore. Young gardeners can participate in soil science and pond dipping, help with planting in the Secret Garden, build a bird scarer and listen to the garden story trail. There will be the chance to decorate a pot and plant a “magic bean” to take home.

On Easter Monday, Avoncroft Museum will be recreating the fun of a traditional village fair at its Spring Family Fun day, on Monday 17th April, with swing boats, fairground stalls and egg decorating. Visitors can try their hand at archery and enjoy a pony ride in the Museum’s grounds, while entertainment will be provided by a jazz band, and colourful characters including Monty the Jester and the Easter Bunny.

Week Two of the “The Secret Gardens” runs 18th-21st April, and invites families to be inspired by the natural world with a host of wildlife-themed activities.  Visitors can hunt for bugs and mini beasts, build a bug home and follow the bug trail.  There will be a chance to get creative and make clay bugs and natural art, as well as cooking on the campfire.

Costumed re-enactors will be bringing the historic buildings to life throughout the Easter holiday period, including demonstrations in the windmill and blacksmith’s forge, as well as offering a glimpse of Easter and Spring time throughout the different historic periods.

Normal Museum admission charges apply with additional charges for some activities, which can be booked on arrival.
