ADVENTUROUS ACCOUNTANTS REACH FUND-RAISING SUMMIT

A family member’s battle with a terminal lung condition prompted six colleagues from a Worcestershire accountancy practice to tackle the Three Peaks Challenge.

Doug Marshall and Graeme Pardoe, senior account managers at Ormerod Rutter Chartered Accountants in Droitwich, teamed up with four team members who came through the firm’s apprenticeship scheme – Daniel Poxon, Will Phillips, Matt Collett and Matt Wheatcroft.

The 24-hour trek to the summits of Ben Nevis in the Scottish Highlands, Scafell Pike in the Lake District and Snowdon in North Wales – a combined height of more than 11,000 feet – didn’t all go smoothly as Mr Pardoe had to have his knee strapped following a fall on Scotland’s highest peak.

Mr Marshall said: “We decided to raise money for the British Lung Foundation as my father-in-law has Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IDF) and is on the waiting list for a lung transplant.

“It was the hardest physical challenge we’ve ever done but raising £3,000 for the charity in just six weeks made it all worthwhile.”
