WINNERS CROWNED IN THE VISIT HEREFORDSHIRE & VISIT WORCESTERSHIRE AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE

On Tuesday 20 September, 120 people from tourism businesses throughout the two counties gathered at Eastnor Castle for the Visit Herefordshire & Visit Worcestershire Awards for Excellence.

60 finalists were represented in ten award categories, ranging from Best Food Producer, to Best Visitor Attraction and Best Festivals & Events.

Guests enjoyed refereshments provided by the Eastnor Castle catering team on the terrace overlooking the Herefordshire countryside before taking their seats in the Great Hall. The event was hosted by Mike Ashton, Chief Executive of Herefordshire & Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce. Attendees also heard from Nigel Huddleston MP, Member of the Select Committee for Culture, Media and Sport, who spoke about the government’s action plan for tourism and his passion for the sector. Ian Edwards, Deputy Chief Executive of Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), also gave an informative talk about where tourism sits in public policy and the funding opportunities available.

James Hervey-Bathurst, Director at Eastnor Castle and Winner of the Visit Herefordshire Best Conference Venue Award, said:

“We are thrilled that we were awarded Best Conference Venue at the Visit Herefordshire Awards for Excellence, and that Eastnor Castle has been recognised for its outstanding conference amenities. It was also a privilege to play host to the awards event, and we are delighted that so many attendees were able to experience our conference offering for themselves. Our award will be proudly on display in the Great Hall.” 

Michael Horton, Owner of the Broadway Hotel, Winner of the Visit Worcestershire Best Hotel Award, said:

“I’m thrilled for Richard and the entire team at The Broadway Hotel who have worked extremely hard over the last few years to make the hotel what it is today; it is thanks to their commitment and high service standards that The Broadway has achieved this well-deserved recognition”.
 
Nigel Huddleston, MP for Mid Worcestershire and Member of the Culture, Media and Sport Committee, said:
“The tourism industry sustains thousands of jobs in Herefordshire and Worcestershire and the Awards for Excellence are a great way to recognise the important contribution of so many local travel, leisure and hospitality businesses. The winners today showed the full diversity and world class quality of our local tourism offerings.”
