SUSTAINABILITY FORUM LAUNCHED TO HIGHLIGHT BUSINESS BENEFITS OF ENERGY EFFICIENCY

Home / News & Opportunities / Chamber News

Date: 09/01/2017

SMEs across Herefordshire and Worcestershire are invited to the first Sustainability forum, in association with the Business Energy Efficiency Programme (BEEP).

BEEP is a European Union funded service that offers eligible small-to-medium sized businesses free energy assessments and access to 40% grant funding up to £20,000. Projects can include updating lighting and heating, making building fabric improvements to reduce heat loss, and replacing old and inefficient machinery.

To compliment the programme, BEEP are launching a free quarterly forum to provide SMEs with the opportunity to network and learn more about the benefits of energy efficiency. The first event is taking place on Thursday 9 February at Thorlux Lighting, Redditch, from 8.00-10.30am and will include an introduction to BEEP followed by questions. Ed Horgan from leading independent energy advisory service Briar Associates will address attendees on some of the key ideas for energy cost reduction in small businesses. Richard Caple, Head of the Lighting Design Department at Thorlux Lighting, will speak on the benefits and application of LED lighting. Attendees will then enjoy a tour of the Thorlux Application Centre.

To attend the forum, please contact Worcestershire Business Central on 01905 677 888 or email info@business-central.co.uk.

One business that has recently benefitted from BEEP is SCN Vehicles in Kidderminster. Liz Rushton, Energy Efficiency Advisor, provided a free energy assessment for the company in November which revealed that significant energy savings could be made through improving the insulation levels of the building’s roof and walls and through installing LED lighting.

Following the review, the business successfully applied for 40% funding. The combined projects will save over 13 tonnes of carbon per year and will lead to a significantly brighter and warmer environment for employees.

Steven Nicholls, Proprietor at SCN, said: “I’m thrilled that SCN have been successful in their bid for funding through the Business Energy Efficiency Programme. Refurbishing our premises has been an ongoing need and this funding will make this a reality and provide numerous benefits. Not only was the application and learning process extremely useful in understanding energy efficiency, but the refurbishment will result in long term savings and a more attractive premises to attract clients.”
