Hereford’s bid to become the City of Culture 2021 has now been submitted to the judges. Four of the eleven entries will be shortlisted by the end of June and the winner will be announced on Monday 20 November.

It is estimated that winning the bid could provide Herefordshire with up to £90 million extra income in the first year, significantly increasing visitor numbers to the city and providing a knock on effect for the surrounding areas.
Visit Herefordshire have provided the aims and ambitions regarding tourism for the bid, which include regenerating the river area, improving the museum offering, improving cycle routes to attract the Tour de France in future, beginning a Tour de Herefordshire and hosting live music events in the city.
Martyn Hammond, Director of Marketing and Commercial Services at Herefordshire & Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce, commented:

“Hereford is up against 10 other cities in the UK and the four shortlisted cities will be announced mid-summer. Here at the Chamber we encourage everyone to back this extremely exciting and unique bid.”
