Home / News & Opportunities / Blog / June 2017 / LIZ PULLIN – ENTERING THE TOURISM AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE

Date: 14/06/2017

The Visit Herefordshire and Visit Worcestershire Awards for Excellence are a chance for local tourism businesses to celebrate what makes them great. The 2017 Awards for Excellence officially launched on Monday 5 June, with entries already coming in.

There are 11 categories to enter, offering a range of tourism businesses the chance for recognition. As the official DMOs for Herefordshire and Worcestershire we have accredited links with VisitEngland, which means that to enter the VisitEngland awards, businesses must first enter our awards where the categories align. The winners of our awards are then put forward to VisitEngland and may be shortlisted for their awards. For all other categories in the VisitEngland awards, businesses can apply through VisitEngland directly.

The implication for businesses in this respect is huge, with the chance for national recognition and promotion. Previously, Herefordshire business Poston Mill Holiday Park have been shortlisted as a result of their win at the 2016 Awards for Excellence.

The categories this year are:

·         Best Visitor Attraction
·         Best Hotel
·         Best Guest Accommodation
·         Best Self Catering
·         Best Touring, Camping and Holiday Park
·         Best Festivals & Events (Community)
·         Best Festivals & Events (Commercial)
·         Best Conference Venue
·         Best Eating Out
·         Best Food Producer
·         Best Drinks Producer

Entering awards is especially important for new businesses that are looking to find their place in the market; award wins and ratings give potential customers that sense of trust that they will have an enjoyable experience.
The Visit Herefordshire and Visit Worcestershire Awards for Excellence can be entered by any relevant tourism businesses within Herefordshire and Worcestershire, and you do not have to be a member or advertiser to enter. The awards ceremony is being hosted by Malvern Theatres on Thursday 21 September when the winners will be announced.
