Hi – great to meet you all!
As my role has previously been more office based, I thought I would take the opportunity of my first blog to let you know a little more about me. My current role is Deputy CEO. I have worked at the Chamber of Commerce for 7 years, previously working for Business Link and the Chamber in both Hereford and Worcester offices for about 13 years, and prior to that at a medium sized manufacturing company in Hereford for 7 years. My career history has primarily been in Finance although over the 10 years I have managed other corporate services, such as HR and IT and more recently commercial contracts and business performance management. I completed an MBA in 2009, which has helped me to use current management practices to enhance my role and performance.
At home I live with my fiancé, my two daughters and at certain times his two daughters – leading to busy but fun weekends! We are currently building an extension to our house and undertaking much of the practical jobs ourselves where we can. This is hard work at times, but really satisfying when the results show, and we hope for it to be a great family home for years to come. Aside from my family and friends, my great joys in life are holidays - and I’m probably known for a good night out too!
Enough about me! I also thought I would use this opportunity to let those more recently involved with the Chamber know a little more about the company. The Chamber is a not for profit organisation, funded by private sector income for membership and other services, as well as public sector income for delivering government funded contracts. We are a growing organisation - in 2013/14 we reached a turnover of £2.4m, and employed 46 staff at 4 offices. This compares to £2.2m and 38 staff four years ago. The Chambers vision is “together, building Economic Strength in Herefordshire and Worcestershire”, which we aim to do this through 3 key business elements – Business Engagement, International Trade and Tourism.
The Business Engagement element of our plan incorporates many services – including membership, networking, training, raising companies profile, policy advice, commercial services and events. Our next big event is the Expo on 4th March
. Our Expos proudly boast being the largest in the area, attracting over 100 exhibitioners and over 800 visitors, with this one being especially exciting due to our keynote speaker Kevin Gaskell and, of course, the promise of seeing Mike taking businesses on at Wheelchair Basketball!
Finally, I’m also delighted to announce our partnership with our new Patron member, Mercia Digital, who we have teamed up with to provide several FREE taster sessions, including an introduction digital marketing and PR.
This is a great way for anyone to be introduced to the topic and is already proving very popular, so I encourage you to book in advance.
Thanks for reading and I hope to see you soon
Best wishes, Sharon
