It is the middle of the golf season in the two counties and we have enjoyed a number of successful Chamber golf days, organised by AMROS Golf, with another event taking place in September.
I attended the Bishop Fleming charity golf day recently, raising money for Rugby star Craig Gillies’ charity CG5 – a great cause. I also had the pleasure of playing with Phil Dutton and Steve Taylor recently, Chairman of Worcestershire County Cricket Club. It was great to hear of the club’s successes this year and the long term plans for the team and the ground.
The Worcester Street Cricket in July was also a big success – bringing a vibrant atmosphere to our forward thinking city. A big thank you to Worcestershire County Cricket Club for organising this event for businesses.
Summer is the season of tourism and there is lots going on in the two counties, including the Worcester Beer, Cider and Perry Festival this weekend, the Ross-on-Wye Cider Festival in September and plenty more. For ideas have a read of our Tourism blog
have just been revealed for the Visit Herefordshire and Visit Worcestershire Awards for Excellence, the leading Tourism Awards in the two counties which seek to recognise the best hotels, self-caterers, food producers, events & festivals and plenty more.
The Chamber is involved in a number of key activities to support businesses which go on throughout the summer. The initial reaction to Brexit has now been dealt with and new posts have been identified to help the process along. It is exciting to see several of our local MPs playing key roles in the new departments - Robin Walker MP is a junior minister in the Department for Exiting the European Union, led by David Davis, which is dedicated to getting the most out of Brexit. Mark Garnier MP has also taken up a role in the Department for International Trade under Liam Fox MP. It is good to see two local, highly committed MPs seriously involved in the future of the United Kingdom.
The Chamber’s Business Expo
is returning to the Three Counties Showground on Thursday 6 October. The popularity of this event increases every time, with the opportunity for businesses to network with 800 visitors, explore a 120+ stand exhibition and meet businesses from a variety of sectors from across the two counties. This year we are excited to welcome the Exporting is GREAT truck to the expo, where attendees will be able to ask for advice about exporting and attend seminars – click here
to find out more. Companies are asked to register online to attend the Expo and we are set for a very exciting keynote speaker this year – visit www.hwchamber.co.uk/expo
All the best,
Mike began his career in his native North-West, where he was Head of Enterprise at Liverpool John Moores University from 1994-2001. The extensive business engagement experience he gained in that role was enough to earn him the Chief Executive’s position at Greater Manchester BusinessLink (Chamberlink), a company that offered business support across the 10 council authorities that form the Greater Manchester umbrella. In May 2007 Mike was appointed Chief Executive of Herefordshire & Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce.
